Big A Little A Bouncing B: Neil Roberts - Film script

Kia ora,

For a wee while now I've been working on what I consider to be an authentic interpretation of Neil and his life around the time of his bombing of the police computer. I have no desire to romanticise or glamourise his actions, but simply to try and show Neil and his attack on the police computer as they truely were. There are other film projects out there that have simply taken the action and left Neil and the punk/anarchist scene of the early 80's behind - this is not one of them.

I have no intention of 'owning' this project* which is part of the reason why I've decided to start posting it onto my blogsite. If you want to contribute then you are welcome to. Thoughts, ideas, information is more than welcome. If you would like to work more collaboratively then I'm sure we can work out a way where you can access editting tools.

Up so far is an introduction scene. I always wanted to link Neil's story with contemporary issues and there have been many attempts/drafts to acheive this. I've settled on Punkfest as the ideal vehicle as well as my adventures in Whanganui as a journalism student many years ago.

For a long time I couldn't decide how to reveal/approach the actual bombing. Try and make it a 'suprise' ending? Nah, we know what happens; lots of explosions and a big fucking mess? Nah, that's not really the final images of Neil that i want to show. So I've put the bombing at the begining (well so far... it is a draft after all) and have used the B./W photos taken by the Wanganui Chronicle's photographer to show the effects.

(incidently a lot of the original photos were stolen by a mysterious American man in the mid 90's who had asked to view them at the Chronicle office.)

The inclusion of imagery from the Police raids of October 15 serves as a future story link to ongoing police oppression and abuse.

Next up is the post-gig scene where we get to hang with Neil....
